Job Description

The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) Dept. of Geosciences seeks innovative candidates for a 9-month tenure track faculty position in the broad areas of Sedimentology and Stratigraphy with an estimated start date of Fall 2025 semester. This is a joint appointment between the College of Natural Science and Mathematics (50%) and the Geophysical Institute (50%). The successful candidate will be expected to teach 2 classes per year, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and develop a rigorous externally funded research program. The Dept. of Geosciences offers B.S. degrees in Geoscience, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Earth System Science.

Teaching responsibilities will include upper-division undergraduate and graduate courses in sedimentology/stratigraphy and paleontology or paleoclimate and active contribution to UAF's ongoing work on equity, diversity and inclusion in science. The incumbent will also participate in delivery of the capstone Field Geology course. The candidate is expected to establish and maintain a vigorous research program in sedimentary geology and stratigraphy. Maintaining and forging partnerships with industry and federal and state government agencies is an important component of funding research at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Service on department or university committees is expected. Service to the scientific community typically includes reviewing papers and proposals, and helping to organize conference sessions.

The successful candidate will design and deliver interactive, place-based undergraduate and graduate courses, establish collaborations with Alaskan agencies or industries, mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers, and develop an externally-funded, field-based research program.

Minimum Qualifications:
This position requires the possession of a PhD in Geology, Earth Science, Geoscience, Earth Systems Science, or a related field and commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in science. Teaching experience is highly desirable, but not required.

Position Details:
This position is located on the Troth Yeddha’ campus in Fairbanks, AK. This is a full-time, 9-month base appointment, FLSA exempt faculty position complete with a competitive salary and full employee benefits package .
