Job Description

Summary/Objective:

The Seasonal Camp Administrator is responsible for providing onsite administrative support for camp leadership. This role requires travel to the 4 sites across Arizona to support the overnight and day camp opportunities offered at Girl Scout Arizona Cactus Pine Camps. This includes supporting the leadership team in breaks and training of seasonal staff. The selected candidate will be a part of a highly functioning, fast-paced team that works collaboratively. The goal of the Outdoor Program Team is to support GSACPC member retention and the Girl Scout Movement.

Reports to: Senior Outdoor Program Manager

Essential Functions:

  • Secondary break relief for onsite leadership team including Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director throughout summer.
  • Travel throughout greater Arizona visiting the four council camps for the duration of the summer camp season (May-July)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, overnights, and occasional weekends.
  • Develop and deliver training that empowers summer camp staff to meet program objectives.
  • Support the leadership team in supervising all seasonal and camp-related program staff and/or volunteers including rule and policy education and enforcement, recruitment, selection, placement, development and release.
  • Support the finance department with summer camp timesheets, payroll, and credit card reporting.
  • Support international staff with transportation, social security administration, and general day-to-day needs.
  • Act as Human Resources liaison for Camp Directors.
  • Cultivate and support a positive organizational and team culture.
  • Review, monitor, and implement the camp’s crisis management plan/emergency procedures.
  • Ensure accurate records/reports are kept up to date, including end of cycle summaries.
  • Maintain positive relationships and communication with parents, families, and legal guardians.
  • Ensures Girl Scouting is open and accessible to all girls and adults.
  • Reflects the core competencies, values, and beliefs of the Girl Scout organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and able to provide written proof at the time of hire.
  • Capability to provide own reliable transportation and maintain valid Arizona operator license with safe driving record.
  • Ability to obtain first aid and CPR certification.
  • Cognitive and communicative ability to manage complex tasks and follow instructions.
  • Ability to identify and respond to the needs of campers, self, and other staff members.
  • Experience working with youth.
  • Bilingual is preferred.
  • This position is designed as a safety sensitive position.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • At least one season (six weeks) of camp leadership experience in an administrative or supervisory position
  • Experience working with youth.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Computer literate with familiarity with Microsoft Office and database management systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure and shift priorities in response to changing needs.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse population including but not limited to school age children, adults, volunteers, and key stakeholders.
  • Ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards relate to camp operations.
  • Ability to act calmly in a crisis.
  • Ability to communicate and provide directions to staff and campers of varying age and skill levels.
  • Cognitive and communicative ability to manage multiple areas of camp operations.
  • Demonstrated maturity, sound judgement, integrity, and flexibility.
  • Experience in planning and implementing outdoor activities and experiences.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control.
  • Positive approach to all camp rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Have strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

Physical Demands:

  • Travel percentage: 80-90%
  • Prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, climbing, and stretching.
  • Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor and camp equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Daily exposure to the sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, etc.
  • Hiking or walking long distances; up to 3-6 miles per day.
  • Mental and emotional ability to appropriately handle sensitive and/or confidential information.


    This role ensures successful camp experience, focusing on safety, program quality, and staff support.
