Salary
Certified Firefighter/EMT: $49,291.06 - $73,936.59
Firefighter/Paramedic: $56,156.00 - $81,329.00 (*includes paramedic incentive pay upon clearance completion; ranges may adjust with pending contract ratifications).
Supplemental Pay
+10% Department-Cleared Paramedic
+2.5% Cleared Hazmat Technician/Assignment
+1.5% Technical Rescue Team Member
Required Certifications (by February 2025 Start Date)
Florida State Certified Firefighter (FF1 and FF2)
Florida State Certified EMT

Complete the CPAT physical test through NTN.

Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Minimum age: 18 at time of employment
Valid driver's license at appointment
Valid State of Florida Firefighter II certification
Valid State of Florida EMT certification
Passing scores on FireTEAM and CPAT tests
Preference for local candidates
Position Details
Nature of Work: General firefighting duties, including combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires, and maintaining department equipment.
Classification Standards: Reports to a designated supervisor under limited supervision. Distinguished from higher classes by non-supervisory duties and from lower classes by the focus on firefighting.

About Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR)
GFR is a full-service department responding to EMS, fire, hazardous materials, technical rescues, SWAT medic, and aircraft firefighting emergencies. The department operates:
9 stations (including an airport station)
200 personnel (21 support/administrative)
Resources: 6 engines, 2 towers, 2 quints, 1 HazMat unit, 2 medium squads, 2 district chiefs, 1 air/light truck, and 2 aircraft firefighting units
GFR is accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International and operates under an automatic aid agreement with Alachua County.
