The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
a. This is a service contract to perform duties as the Saturday and Sunday Catholic
Service Music Director for the Wright-Patterson AFB chapel. The U.S. Government
shall neither supervise nor control the method by which the music director performs
required task herein.
3. CONTRACTING OFFICER REPRESENTATIVE (COR) :
a. The Contracting Officer Representative for this contract is the Chaplain in charge of
the Catholic Services. The music director will consult with the COR for resolution or
questions about this Job Description.
4. QUALIFICATIONS:
a. The music director shall have at a minimum of the following qualifications:
b. Strongly preferred, but not required to be an active member of the Our Lady Queen of
Peace Catholic Chapel Community, Wright-Patterson AFB.
c. Must be proficient at individual singing, piano/keyboard playing, and leading
congregational singing in a Roman Catholic Mass and/or service, accompanied by
other musicians.
d. Must pass a background investigation at a minimum involving the following agencies
for working with youth under 18, State Criminal History Repository Check, Fingerprint
check and Installation Record Check. Installation Records Check includes Security
Police, Drug & Alcohol Program, Family Housing, and Medical Treatment Facility for
Family Advocacy Program, Service Central Registry records and Mental Health
records.
e. Must have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Roman Catholic Church
musician and/or worship team director.
f. Possess the ability to maintain professional standards of conduct and public decorum
and be attired and groomed in a manner that reflects professional status of the chapel
worship environment.
g. Possess the ability to constructively work with chapel staff, parish volunteers,
customers, and other chapel musicians.
h. Must possess a broad knowledge of Catholic music (choral calls to worship, hymns,
anthems), and Catholic worship music.
i. The potential vendor must possess a detailed knowledge of Catholic music and
appropriate ability to perform services such as, reading music via piano and vocal
means. Additionally, the music director must understand and support Roman Catholic
theology while working in a pluralistic environment in which the worship service is
under the direction of the Service Chaplain.
5. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
a. The Saturday Catholic Service Music Director will provide all musical services related
to the Catholic Worship team. The music director shall provide all personnel, equipment,
supplies, transportation, tools, materials, supervision and other items necessary to
perform duties as the Saturday Catholic Service Music Director. The music director shall
provide all music, musical planning, coordination, and directing for all Saturday and Sunday
Catholic Services. Additionally, the music director shall provide service for all 6 special
Holy day and/or weekly observances and holiday services in accordance with para. 6a.
of this JOB DESCRIPTION. The music director will provide music with the choir and band rehearsals, and
additional unscheduled services as necessary, including, but not limited to funerals,
memorial services, special chapel functions and music workshops.
6. SATURDAY CATHOLIC SERVICE MUSIC DIRECTOR:
a. The Saturday Catholic Service Music Director, hereinafter referred to as the
“Music director” is responsible for coordinating all actions and musical selections with the
Catholic Service Chaplain prior to rehearsal or performance. Rehearsal and weekly
performance will primarily be held at the Chapel or alternate locations during
renovations. The music director is responsible for directing/instructing the Catholic choir
at all weekly regular Catholic services. Normal service duration is approximately 60-
75 minutes. The music director is responsible for directing a weekly Catholic choir
rehearsal. Normal rehearsal duration is 60-75 minutes. The music director will submit the
music selection for the upcoming week to the chaplain no later than 1600 (4:00PM)
local each Friday.
b. Special Services and Rehearsals: Special services, services that are considered to be
holy and/or special to the specified faith group to include but are not limited to the
following: Christmas rehearsals, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Services; Ash
Wednesday, Holy Week, and Easter. The music director will receive 24-hour notification
to perform special services.
7. RESPONSIBILITIES:
a. The music director should be present 60 minutes before worship services for rehearsal as
well as to coordinate any last-minute details with officiating chaplain.
b. The music director will lead worship and special singing during each worship service on
Saturday Catholic Mass.
c. The music director may also be called up to lead opening and closing hymns for
congregational singing.
d. The Music director will conduct all designated worship team rehearsals along with the
service’s musical accompanist(s). These rehearsals will be conducted once a week,
unless prior coordination to cancel rehearsal has been approved by the Chaplain.
e. The music director will actively recruit volunteer’s musicians to ensure that a robust music
program is offered at the Saturday Catholic Worship Service.
f. The music director may be called upon during special services such as funerals, memorial
services, specific religious observances, and other special programs, upon request by
the chaplain of the Catholic Chaplain.
g. The music director is responsible, either independently or with the help of volunteers, to set
up and tear down all equipment, materials, and supplies necessary for use during a
rehearsal or service. All materials will be displayed in a neat and orderly fashion and
will be returned to their original position afterward. All musical equipment, to include
but not be limited to instruments, music stands, microphone stands, etc., will be
put away in the proper storage rooms. They are not to be left in the sanctuary
unless arrangements have been made with the Chaplain in charge of the Garrison
team.
h. The music director will ensure that newly acquired music and equipment are properly
identified, catalogued and filed in the Catholic music library where applicable.
i. The music director will be available to attend worship clinics and professional conferences
in both music and sound. Travel may be required.
j. The music director will in coordination with the service chaplain, continually review new
releases for suitability of text to the Roman Catholic faith and the church season, and
for the performance level of the Catholic Worship Team and Service Choir.
k. The music director will meet with the Catholic Worship Service chaplain on a weekly basis
to discuss upcoming music selections.
l. The music director will, with coordination of the service chaplain, ensure that chapel
equipment used outside of the chapel facility is signed out on an AF Form 1297,
Temporary Issue Receipt, and proper resource protection.
m. The music director will comply with all chapel operating instructions (OIs), specifically
those regarding facility usage, resource protections, fire prevention and funds
utilization. The music director will also submit facility request to arrange for use of facility
for all meetings, rehearsals and programs for the year.
